Often when a business purchases an ECM solution it doesnt take advantage of the "out of the box" software. With more coplicated systems, more often than not the ECM API is the most important element, with VARs or Professional Services utilising the API to deliver new applications built on that ECM platform - to meet the requirements of the business. Many times this is to hide "features" of the out of the box product, which may appear to rich or a little complicated. Obviously writting new business applications (even ontop of an established platform) takes time and money, so what is different with the up-coming release of workFile Vision?
Andrew Smith, Managing Director explained "We see businesses not having to develop new applications using our API, rather we want to provide them with the option to build their own elements, features, functions and applications into the Vision application itself, effectively extending the Vision application to meet their requirements."
This means that the workFile Vision application can be used as a "starting point" for organisations and developers. By allowing developers to build their own elements that run in the Vision application, effectively the out of the box product is utilised by the business and it brings real value to any implementation. Andrew continued "Vision is quite unique in the way it operates, so we see businesses wanting to utilise this with their own components and configuration plugged into the native application. This will simply save a lot of development time and cost, and ofcourse reduce the risk of any new ECM requirement."
So how does Vision do this? Basically Vision provids a library of controls, components and interfaces for Silverlight, Vision enables developers to build components that "plug" directly into the Vision application. Once installed, these components can interact with other elements of the Vision application in all the same ways "in built" components work. So for example, your business requires a bespoke query interface, one that cannot be created seamlessly as a templated search in workFile. All your developers need do with workFile Vision is build the query interface and launch button. They need not worry about logging into the platform, security or features the user will expect to have access to once the content has been located. They need not developer interfaces and code to handle such requests as View, Properties, Check-out etc. because these are already part of the Vision application.
In all, this up-coming release of workFile Vision extends the flexibility and capabilities of the workFile platform. These new features help both business and developers alike...
